Perhaps.

Vega was probably better if it had a better engine and didn't rust so bad. Pinto wasn't awful, just boringly bad.

I ran the piss out of a '71 Vega for about three years, and other than having the front fenders replaced under recall, I never had a problem.

I had a friend with a Vega and he loved it but he only had it a couple of years before the engine crapped out. My mom had a 72 Pinto that she got rid of less than a year after she bought it because it was so awful in bad weather. Nothing seriously wrong, just crude and cheaply made.

Vega cars had an aluminum engine and they warped real easy.
I knew several people that had them and over half wound up with warped engines.
They were real cute though and I remember as a 16-18 year old really liking these cars.
Liked the Barracuda and Charger better though.

Back when I was growing up my Mother had a 68 Lincoln Continental with suicide doors and a 72 Mavrick. My Dad had a 56 Chevy station wagon he used at work and a 1940 Buick Business Coupe 2 door with no back seat. It came that way from the factory that way. It had a straight 8 in it. It originally belonged to an Uncle of mine who had passed away and it had been setting in a garage for 25 years. My Aunt sold it to my Dad for 50 bucks.
