I laugh and scoff, when people blame Denis T for the last contract.

You have to find a boogeyman.... somewhere ?

I don't blame him per se. It was his idea for the 22.4. And yes, if they were implemented as he proposed them, they would have worked. So it is not really his fault. The Company took advantage of the language. But SOB did eliminate his 22.4 position and he did replace SOB as the Package Director and co-chair of the UPS National Negotiating Committee in 2018.

I was looking for a shot across the bow, but he retired.

Imagine the central getting a smaller raise than the west because it's more expensive to live out here and us saying.. "we're just trying to close the gap and make it fair..."

It's not the rest of the nation's fault you guys can seem to manager your books even with bailout and bailout. Put that lower cost of living money into your 401k if you need more for retirement.
Start electing republicans if you want a lower cost of living.

The problem with most pension plans they have not gotten raises for many many years
What may sound like a decent number today will not be a good number 10 or 20 years from now

But yes everyone needs to take a little personal responsibility and put some money into their own personal retirement plans

What prevents UPS from dropping the MRA the day before the new contract is ratified?

edit: So the Union is acting on "FAITH" that UPS won't screw them over. Again.

Most would just squander that money on new cars, boats, etc etc and would have jack :censored2: to retire on and cry that the union didn’t have their back. Sometimes we have to save people from themselves.

I've talked to the last 20 retirees before they left and NONE had any savings outside the Pension. No 401k, no investments. About half have paid off their house though.

I get it.

The 10% of us that plan ahead are being punished because 90% of the population have no financial self discipline.

I also hate that the excuse is almost always "I could get hit by a bus tomorrow, I have to spend every cent now!"

I know of at least 6 that started working again, all retired pre-Covid, as bartender, waitress, lawn care specialist, florist...

Not everyone is irresponsible.

Most of the pension plans are not enough few to live on during the whole retirement

Just remember the stock market could crash at anytime. Just because it hasn't, doesn't mean it won't. In that scenario a pension would be far more valuable than a 401k

I get what you are saying, the problem is that we have negotiated retirement plans that pay considerable less that others for the same number of years service and age requirements. It is not a level playing field.

I recently retired and have savings in a 401K, started that as a full timer back in the early nineties. Before that as a part timer I was in the (defunct) Thrift Plan, I do not have my house paid off yet but I can do it tomorrow if I wanted to. My pension is considerably lower than most of our retirees with the same amount of service...11 part time 35 full time...I been fighting that for years, every year went down to the Hall and put in my proposals... :felloforit1:

The advantage I have is that I am almost 69 years of age and was eligible to collect full social security when I turned 66 and still work. I was eligible for Medicare when I turned 65 and therefore didn't have to deal with the Team Care's retirees Health and Welfare benefits, paying about the same amount for Medicare B and supplemental insurance.

I stated this before and everybody is probably sick of it....a lot of our members have been left behind before O'Brien got into office...(Those part timers under the UPS Pension Plan that are eligible for retirement now and in the future got absolutely nothing with this TA or the Central Supplement...)
