Here's a thought...why don't UPS keep the surepost and hire SSD/PVDs to deliver that volume year round. Will be much cheaper than hiring full time drivers and benefits. Making the company prosper more and build the pensions.

Between the bad weather and the surepost fallout, our building is drowning in packages. The in-town routes are just barely keeping their heads above water but the country routes are completely and totally ed. A driver I know had 230 stops and 200 miles yesterday with an RTB of 1:15am this morning.
