OMS's WHO CHOOSE OR NOT CHOOSE UNION- ON TOPIC PLEASE

Just so I'm clear. What does an OMS do in your opinion that they are considered clerks?

When I first started we had a young lady that manned customer service requests at our building. There was no such thing as overseas or non Union customer service representatives. She was a part time (Union) member and handled everything. Today’s OMS’s are doing the same work, hours of service and operational reporting were strictly Union in the day. I believe that even feeder dispatch was also handled by Union personnel. The Administrative Specialist is just another word for someone who does any Clerical function, don’t drink the kook aid…

We almost went on strike last peak for the specialist and administrative workers in Chicago and Louisville that where laid off and received back pay for trying to unionize . Something changed since the last contract. Some centers have eliminated a OMS position and replaced them with example the pm supervisor now does both jobs. This obviously cancels the chances of then being union. This is at the smaller centers.

General membership meeting is to give general information about what’s going on around the local and to read the minutes. Policy decisions are not really made there, although they can be discussed.

Accountability comes when the election is held, In my experience the people who are not accountable are the members, the vast majority of which don’t vote all.

It's funny, I'm not a star trek guy but the smart ass in me almost said the same thing. :)
