I'm just trying to pick the brain of a high level bible guy that has some differing opinions on some issues. I like to explore. Plus it gives me some thought provoking reading material when I get home & set down on the throne.

What is COC doctrine on this?

The COC has no docrine like denominations. The appeal is to the doctrine of Christ or the NT. Each congregation is independent of each other. There is no headquarters or missionary society to answer to.
Congregations of Christ cooperate one with another in evangelist and benevolent ways, but are autonomous.
If one begins teaching something contrary to the NT , they no longer are “of Christ “

The founders had many personal writings expressing their belief in Christianity. As much as atheists want to say they were deists it just wasn't so. Christianity permeated every level of society back then from the coast to the frontier. The things that go on today they couldn't even fathom let alone tolerate. Are you aware of apocalyptic literature? Very common back then for communications to be couched in symbolism lest it fall into the wrong hands. Letters by the way had numerical value. Add up the letters in N-E-R-O and what do you get? 666. Nero of course was the Roman emperor when Revelations was written who was persecuting the Church. But people today want to take all of that literally and believe we'll be running around with 666 on our foreheads or some such.

Thus, the early Christian testimony places the writing of the Revelation in the time of Domitian’s reign.

OK, that clears that up but Nero was the emperor until 68 A.D. and was known for his terrible treatment of Christians. But if Jesus died in 33 A.D. and John was his apostle and Domitian's reign ended 63 years later in A.D. 96 then how old was John when he wrote Revelations? They had him laboring in the mines on Patmos. Doesn't sound like a man in at least his late 80's to mid 90's.
