I guess I should have read up on Galloway. My Wife tells me they always use that method and NEVER graduate to straight running. I was hoping Galloway would fan the flames and now I come to find out that she loves the run/walk. WHAT HAVE I DONE???

I was thinking about signing up on my route, but figured I'd wait till I got home, to register. I was shocked when I read this message. At first I thought it was closed for the evening. Then I went over to runner'sworld.com and saw how astonished the whole community was.

Please Explain!!!
Boston is a tough course. Because it is a down hill course. It is the grave yard of many a marathon runner. Take your time on your decision and let me know. And I'll see what I can do. Sadly, I can't go into detail with an explanation. Only to say that the family of marathon runners is a close knit family and we take care of our own.

My Wife (Melissa) just ran her first half marathon yesterday. She finished in 3:05 and was exhausted, but glad she pulled through. She said that miles 10-13 were the toughest, though she could hear us cheering her on from the mile 12 water stop, which really helped her along. I had a loud cowbell and I was ringing it like a madman. I've already put a 13.1 sticker on her car, and she's thinking about puting a huge checkmark through it, as if to say, btdt, LOL, though she is toying with the idea of another.
That's awesome Steve! Great job Melissa!

Good job Melissa!!!. And she's right. I was dying after mile 10. I had to walk a little at 10, 11, 12 and right before 13. then I sprinted the last 1/4 mile.

Congrats Melissa... Stug, I can see your chest poking out ringing that bell. The thing I love the most is the family time together you all get out of this.... awesome

Sorry Stug. I really thought I could put you on the starting line for the 2010 Boston Marathon. But, unless things change, I can't make it happen. I spoke at length today with the person that could make it happen and even he said there are no numbers out there. Even Dana Farber is scrambling to get their numbers. I tell ya man. It sucks. This never happened to me. To run an AAU santioned marathon, qualify, and be denied entry into a race is just plain awful. Nobody can take that 3:19 away from you.

That's okay Whiskey. You're right about my time, though I'm hoping to better that on Dec 19th. I guess next registration day I'll have to take an option day and sit at the puter at 9am like everyone did this year, that is, IF I requalify.

January first, 2011, the BAA will announce it is lowering the qualifying times for the 2012 Boston Marathon. My guess, by 15 minutes in each age group. This will be done to avoid the online registration filling up in 8 hours and 3 minutes as it did earlier this month. There are simply too many good marathon runners out there. Good luck.

I guess I'll just have to run faster and remember to stay home for the race to the puter. I wonder how that will work with the people that already qualified in NYC and stuff. I'm sure they won't be too happy.

I've always been curious though how if there are time qualifications for Boston, how do people that finish Boston in over 6 hours ever qualify in the first place????

The Q times are much slower for the elderly and people with disabilities. So there's hope for us yet :wink2:

That's exactly how I run too. It's a big hit at the races :happy-very:
Ha Ha Ha, you're the "leader of the band"? The way your avatar swings its arms, all it needs is one of those band leader Conductor's Wand's. Which got me thinking about this song, bringing my post even more off topic.:happy2: Though I think that I know you well enough that you appreciate Dan Fogelberg's music.

My 21 year old nephew, Ruairi (Rory), just won the Space Coast half marathon in a time of 1:13.11. He out ran the 2nd place finisher by almost 2 minutes. This was his first ever half marathon, though he has run cross country since high school, but never this distance. He's down with his folks from North Dakota visiting relatives in Melbourne for the holidays, so he, and his father, decided to run the Space Coast half marathon. I am so proud of him, and so very jealous, at the same time.
