It took getting dumped by my girl friend, for me to regain my running focus. So watch out Steve, I can go pretty low in those 5K's.

Wooot! Go whiskey!
And next time find a runner girl :wink2:
Hey, in addition to a Brown Cafe cruise, maybe we could all meet at a race one day. Better still, we could do one of the relays. They have several here in Florida and I'm sure throughout the states. We could pick a race and maybe UPS will sponsor us, but even if they don't, we could still have a great time. Whaddayasay?

Honestly I've never been much for traveling to race, and even if I was road races aren't my thing. I might consider it for an ultra, we have lots of those in the DC area which coincidentally is about equidistant from Florida and Massachusetts...

UPS won't sponsor us, I've tried that one already :wink2:

For all of the country (mainland) the center would be around the connecting border of Nebraska & Kansas. At least it would be flat! You all could run with Dorothy & Toto !!

Im all for doing a meet up race with fellow BCers; even up for a relay as long as its a long relay and you're not worried about finish times....lol....

And Jones yep,,,Triple Lakes is the ultra. Ive never even seen the course, but have been told not a bad one to shoot for the mileage

Ms Jones and I ran in a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project this morning. The loop was 4.7 miles and we wanted to do more so we showed up early and did a double to make it 9.4, finishing the first loop about 15 minutes before the start of the actual race so we had time to get our numbers 'n stuff. It was fun, neither one of us has raced in almost 3 years and even though we treated it like a long run with a tempo at the end instead of really trying to race it, it felt good to be back in that atmosphere. More importantly my knees felt great. I think Ms Jones won the Master's on the woman's side but we haven't seen any results yet.

The Tough Mudder race I ran in May also had the funds going to WWP. good cause since the government harldy helps these soldiers that put their lives on the line.

Good for you guys. It must feel really good to be out there with your better half, and doing it for a great cause surely boosts that feeling.

40 miles !! You know, like tires, your feet are only good for a finite number of miles. You're going to wear yours out before their time. Are you going to be one of those seniors with a scooter? Wanna borrow my Mini for the 40 miles??

Go go Tourists!
That looks like a nice technical course, which is just the way I like'em :happy2:. The only 40 miler I've run is Highland Sky (twice), which is also a very technical course. You've been to the show, as long as you've been getting your miles in you'll be fine. In my experience weekly mileage is always the biggest factor when it comes to ultras.

What do you mean when you say "technical course"? Do you have to solve an algebraic equation before being allowed to pass a check point?
It basically means there's a lot of twists and turns and rocks and roots as opposed to being smooth and flat, so you have to pay attention and watch where you're putting your feet, you can't just zone out and run a steady pace. Unless you want to end up face down on the trail with blood coming from somewhere :wink2:.

So it is more of a cross country race rather than a road race--gotcha.
