Second Class Drivers

gman042

Been around the block a few times
We heard about this at our last union meeting.

The morning drivers would work the preload and then go on road for 3-4 hours while the evening drivers would go on road for 3-4 hours and then work the metro.

Lower pay rate.

It does make sense.

Okay

This scenario you just described is what was taken away from us when the put the preloads in. It was a called a driver sort.
Guess what? When the drivers loaded the trucks, things went more smooth; there were less misloads and there was less management. The biggest complaint by UPS on the driver sort was they did not want to pay us the overtime and that we did not have the hours to deliver that they seemed to think was necessary.

Now all the sudden they get the brainy idea
hey why don't we just put the drivers on the sort and then let them deliver on road for a while
Sheesh

Corporations are always looking for cheaper labor and more money. With most companies, strict language might be followed. With UPS,they will exploit PT drivers to the full extent and make the Union fight it to the end.The language would have to be bullet proof,if that is possible

Got the T-Shirt
We should put in the contract that the two-bit drivers have to wear plaid so we can easily identify the rejects

You know this company loves challenges.

They always want to have their cake and eat it too.

They want bring loads back on time, they want to wrap the preload, they want increased visibility on volume, they want to service air, they want more volume, they want you to work safely, they want to run 7 days a week, they want to please shareholders, they want to be environmentally responsible and they want to squeeze every last drop of their employees' energy.

Find me a upser (IDC management or hourly) who is genuinely content with their career and feel good about they do everyday.

Creating a second class driver shouldn't even be on the table.

What's next? Go load trailers for 4 hours and then jump in the tractor and bring it over to a hub not too far away so you're back in time. If you're done early I have a few package cars for you to wash.

If the union creates that language the company will exploit it. Kiss our jobs goodbye. You might as well consider yourself red circled if you're a ground driver.

The company wants to work seven days a week. Most drivers that have been here a while, don’t want to work weekends. I don’t have an answer, but of course it’s a possibility. At least 22.3 pays into the pension. But it is kind of two tiered. Not by a ton, but lower none the less. How would you suggest staffing fornweekend work?
Simple, pay and progression stay the same. All new drivers either have to take those spots until they get enough seniority to bid a Monday to Friday spot or stay part time.

What kind of Union actually introduces language for a lower paid Union position for a company that breaks profit records EVERY quarter,it is really hard to believe..

A Union that is more beholden to the company then the Union members.
