Its the same way with those car customizing shows. They get a POS rust bucket and by the time they are done with it all that is left of the original car is maybe a gas cap---and that has been sent to a custom gas cap re-platter a thousand miles away and always gets delivered back-- just in the nick of time.

I had a similar, much less substantial tool for low speed chains

Shaft drive is great for those who like low maintenance. Like me. I had a Honda with shaft drive.

I was out on a road trip recently with a cheap chain I was adjusting twice a day. I will be using the above tool to rivet closed a quality chain.
