UPS Strike prediction

The World Socialist Website. I’m not a fan of commies. I don’t like that the TDU is backed by commies. I don’t like that unions have their noses so far up the democrat parties rear end they think they have a free pass to strike. I don’t like that the Union has spilt so much bad blood between the members and their leadership that they’re trying to gin up a fight to the death battle with the company to gain back trust and belief that they care about us. I’ll reiterate again, there’s nothing to strike about. We make 50% more than everyone else that does the same job at different companies. We have a superior benefits package. We have recession (which is coming) proof employment. We got a good COLA raise last year. This job has been so dumbed down and automated they could hand a DIAD 6 to anyone off the street and they’d have this job down in a week. I’m very certain if a strike vote was authorized 80% of the workforce, deep down, would cross the line if the other 20% almost all old timers wouldn’t smash their windshields for the rest of their careers. The workforce is so apathetic to the union, at least where I’m at. I haven’t seen a union hall member at my building in months. There’s no advertisements. They’re not outside in the parking lot talking to members. I doubt 99% of the guys could tell you the local number or where the hall is located. I just don’t see how they could ask people to stop working and ruin their finances when there’s such record low participation and almost non existent outreach.
I agree on not striking but not on a lot of the other things that you said. First we make more than other people who do similar jobs, not the same job as we do for other companies and we deserve every dollar that we make. Second, the job has been dummy downed from when I started 30 years ago but it is still a job that is not for everyone. It takes a certain kind of person to succeed as a delivery driver for UPS. Lastly, our benefits are great compared to most companies but, at least in my local our healthcare is nowhere near what it was when it was a company plan as opposed to a union plan.
All that being said I definitely don’t want a strike and feel very fortunate to have worked for this company for the last 30 years. Don’t sell it short, we work harder and have more bill crap thrown at us than any other drivers at other delivery companies.

I believe this post. We had older preloaders who filled in driving and were able to clear over 100k. Remember as soon as they touched a ground box delivery they got paid drivers rate for the whole day. Every week they maxed out at 60. Throw in time bonuses and the math adds up.

They are not working now that much. I did see the check receipt.

Until you retire and that pension doesn’t equal all those hours you were getting. -I know some locals are different but I doubt it’s a lot.

Nope.

Once you pick up or deliver a ground package, you are now working as a package driver, not an air driver, eligible for package pay rate. Supplemental language now applies.
The Company used to pay PT air drivers top ground rate for the day regardless of how much time was actually spent delivering or picking up ground. Our Union Local cut a deal at some point and now we only get paid for time spent working ground. Art 40 Sec 1 paragraph 7 only says the company will pay top ground driver rate when there is a violation.

Art 40 in the preamble states it supersedes supplement, riders, and addenda's.

You are not handling exception ground packages when they send you out with 50 stops.

Article 40 says you get the difference in pay. But for the day, or just the time you handled the ground packages?

This is where the Supplement comes into play if it is covered. And it is covered in the New England Supplement.
