ask an IE anything

Good thing I wore my brown pants
@catstalking , why do we not sheet damages missed when our training clearly says to do so?
🧔‍♂️✊
You don't? I was asked once to sheet it as NI. My reply was that "this went against the training I had received on (and gave the date i took the diad training, as I had done it a few weeks prior). Am I being instructed to go against ups training? "
I sheeted it missed.

Don’t worry he’s friendly
Why is there a dock bulk stop on my 8k shelf , computer nerd!
🧔‍♂️✊
I had them setup a bid route I had few years ago like that. 8000s were all one stop, 5000 shelf never went past 5500 hin, 6000s never past 6500, and so on. It was to keep the loads better. I got the route set up pretty good, then the Brady bunch made it a training route and the area grew business wise and now it’s a complete :censored2: show.
Nobody can scratch it. Impossible.

When a building/center is understaffed who is to blame. Combination?
mix blame of IE, the DM, and the individual managers

Why are projections for volume in some areas so off?
bad/dumb IE; it's just a matter of taking recent averages and putting it against a growth rate derived from this year vs last year

it ought to be within 3%, if it's not the IE is either bad or trying to overthink planning and messing up

What "unicorn scenario" are you talking about? Please advise because it sounds like you haven't been a driver, at least for more than 6 months...correct that latter if you must.

Or manipulated by a human.....??
YOU ARE NOT BEATING THE MILES CALCULATOR
YOU ARE BEATING YOUR PDS AND HIS DUMB PARAMETER SETTINGS

if you still don't get the difference, that should be your sign that you have NO IDEA what you're talking about

Hire more people. UPS found a way to send routes that averaged 140 stops for years, out now with 200 stops and tell the driver they are out too late.

Maybe stop keeping minimum staff for maximum stops and meet in the middle.
paid day didn't increase significantly compared to the SPC increase

Exactly.

"Here we set this up so you can walk a straight line from one point in a resi section to 2 houses, in a straight line across the lawn" But when they follow us and we walk across a soft lawn they give us a warning..lol.
bad on road sups who don't understand the technology

I get the fact they are trying to judge distance to the door, but Orion doesn't account for traffic, school bus release times, they think everyone takes lunch at noon..(sigh)...Customer ship times, receiving hours.
literally all of that can be configured by the PDS, so yes it can account for it

You sound like you’re seething because the pool is closed and you didn’t get in.

i actually believe in Bitcoin, i literally don't care what some :censored2:coin does or doesn't do

It is exactly that....a miles optimizer but with lackluster results...it's so we could get a kickback, bonus, discount, call it what you want.

Also, you may see the technical side of it, but we as drivers are told to use Orion, and we have to stay what...within 85%? Doesn't matter about PDS, RDO, ODO....How about let the driver get the route done in a sensible order and at a reduced time on road. Why does UPS try to save a couple miles when getting back 30 min earlier saves FAR MORE $$$ than the fuel/wear used to drive 2 or 3 miles, or 10 miles.
if parameters are set correctly and the map is accurate, the biggest real difference between RDO and ODO is:
  • how much ground you deliver with your airs
  • your to/from travel path
it might shake up the order in which you do work areas, but within the work areas there should basically be no difference

if your real life experience is different, your PDS is screwing up horribly

When I'm told you to use Orion trace, I'm out later.

When I freelance my route so the customers get their business pieces BEFORE 2PM OR NOON, they are HAPPY. This whole bit with Orion puts a middle finger in the faces of business owners who need product for the day and to be able to send product back out. They get pretty pissed when we deliver to them at 4 PM instead of 11 AM....just to appease the bean counters...who pays for this? The CUSTOMERS, take care of them.
very bad AM parameters, that's all that is
literally 10 seconds moving a slider bar and hitting "apply" by your PDS could fix your problems

OK fine but I don’t know one person who's PDS is apparently not screwed up. Lol. Garbage in, garbage out.

Please answer this question:
Did you earn a BSIE at an accredited University or just get promoted up into the lowest FT level in UPS Management and now you are an expert?

Why do we very rarely actually see anyone from IE in person? And when we do they all look like they were dressed out of a JCPenney‘s catalog from 1990?
They were cut by over 50% by transformation - they now reside in “consultation“ teams.
Generally speaking, engineers don’t buy clothing based on fashion.
