ask an IE anything

Orion works on a route with a driver who has no area knowledge...not like years past when they send you out with a map hoping the boxes don't fall from the shelves.

Can Orion get anyone through a route? Likely not, but the tech is there to keep a rookie on track for the most part.

I can see how it can work, but there are many, MANY....(most) drivers who can finish the route, with the same 10-15 extra SPC, resulting in less OT, less net $$ spent by the company, and much happier customers.
see this is actually totally backwards; ORION works best with veteran drivers who know:
  • how ORION is "thinking"
  • when to ignore ORION and deliver in RDO
  • still trust and follow it most of the time
a new driver is the worst on ORION because they'll follow a bad solution right into the dirt and never understand what happened

I think the best help for rookies is the map and navigation feature. There really is no need to run 90% Orion. It's obsolete

I agree with this.

So a good driver is smarter than ORION?

that's the real question; the answer is even with all the disorganization, poor setup, and poorly trained PDS, it still manages to squeeze enough savings to be better than pre-ORION

personally if you told me all the maintenance required, then told me the PDS wouldn't get any additional support to maintain it, i'd have said it was nuts to implement and we'd never make money, and i'd have been totally wrong v0v
That's from manipulated numbers. Total milarky.

Orion works best for me in clean residential routes without pickups. Pickups ruin what Orion is trying to do and there are too many variables involved to fix it. I can't tell you how many times that a rookie would end up with 70 stops scattered across their route because they broke off everytime Orion said to. I miss the days when you could close and reopen pickups. I ignore Orion now, so I'm not sure what it does. I think my trace is around 70%

We keep the idiot IEs out of the airline. Their typical half-assed efforts and excuses aren’t good enough, so if for some unknown reason they make it in here, they’re gone within 6 months….back to some shothole in Rockford, IL or somewhere similar.
We also have little tolerance for Supervisors pretending to be “smart” and “knowledgeable” like you have on the Ground side.

Definitely bad all the way around.

Shhhh. Don't let them know.

My beef with Orion is... I don't want to keep hearing about it on a weekly basis, sometimes daily. Suck up the fact we spent big$$ on R&D, let it go.

IMO, UPS would make a whole lot more money if they dropped Orion and focused on improving the Diad. That thing is adding 10s of minutes to people's day. Whoever heard of having to back out of the picture to add apts and suites?
You could give the customer a better eta if it changed on entry to a zone of the route. You could even group it by pal or something.

That's it! I'm taking away GPS, Google Map, smart phone, microwave, and TV remote control from you geezers! I'll give it all to Mech-II. You don't deserve it. Now I am starting to think he is the best RPCD.
