Fallout from the new contract?

Are you talking about what he said, or the poor grammar and punctuation lol
What I'm trying to say it's pathetic that we don't have management that can make a real decision.

I've been doing this job a long time and it's really hard to respect somebody that's never done this job and has no clue what's going on when you try to explain anything to them.

It is what it is I guess

Yes I agree. Can’t hire from the outside and expect to have any credibility

For some reason they think technology can teach everyone this job.
I cannot tell you how many times my map nav has been wrong.
All of technology we have is a good tool but it should not be the rule.
I've been doing this job for a long time and I can tell you one thing I do not learn a damn thing by looking at the navigational system.

I love map/nav. Just turn my brain off and follow the arrows. I don't learn an area like we used to without it.

From my experiences, the tech goes a very long ways to doing exactly that.

The electronic device I last used was Apple (I think) and I used it in an area that I did not need it, and was very familiar with.

It was wrong only once in awhile with very easy suburban residential addresses. And ironically, it was very accurate out in the sticks.

But we all know that there are some stops where finding the address is only half the battle, and hands-on experience is critical.

Our center is in the process of getting rid of oms clerks in the office, and they have told dispatch don't worry when we install AI you still have a job for at least 3 more years. I think there feeding them bs on the timeline. They already got rid of plant engineer, Human resource and they are in the process of cutting customer service counter hours in our hub. They took away Management pensions, and bonuses. They are also paying more premiums with less coverage on healthcare. Leaves UPS more money to give us our pay rate increases without touching their bottom line.

Of course. Something has to give. There isn’t an unlimited supply to longevity.

What do you guys think will be the fallout on the management end? VSAP for ops management?
Why should there be any fallout? Union wins resulted in ops management loses? That is not how it works as "partners". If you have that attitude, all our jobs would be very hard.

I'm actually a positive person and appreciate UPS as a whole and allowed me to support my family. I'm being realistic as a long term employee. There's only so much of a financial hit the company is willing to take before they have to make some hard decisions.

Do you think the recent VSAP is a coincidence? The hold on job grade modifications? The hold on changing the pay band? Hold on spending? All this has to be linked to the contract. My guess they are doing this to first see how much $ they will have to spend and give up relating to the contract. If they have to give up more than they expect, cuts will have to take place somewhere. The company has to balance things out for the shareholders somehow.

Of course...what do you think they teach in business schools for MBAs and Finance people? Not saying that the last few generations of MBAs worth the paper their degrees written on.

When you don't know how to grow business, you cut cost.

The best MBAs do all of that.

Fallout?

Well after this contract, all our union partners in arms, will all be smiling and happy, and love coming in to work to provide great service and willing go above and beyond.

lol

What is funny is even though they blame us in management for everything, I really hope they get whatever they want.
And I don't know what else they can take from management. There is not really anything special about it anymore at all.

MIP is effectively finally going away next year as they have been working towards for the last decade or so. There is no pension and has not been for many years, healthcare benefits are high market rates and no better or less cost than any other company. Let alone stuff that was already taken years ago that made UPS different, like xmas turkey and xmas bonus.

There really is nothing left to take from most managers. Management at UPS has turned into a straight, work for pay with little benefits job already.
You sound like most non-hourlies. We are all stealing right out of your pocket.

If people remember what happened after the "97" strike, that was the first round of management buyouts

or forced retirement. If the company makes us walk.... it's going to be a blood bath.

Mark my words.
I agree, it was already coming but Covid delayed it. Old school guys feel it and the new guys think it’s impossible because their too important to the company!

One of the saddest things I've seen were management people that didn't give up.

They bought into the dream and were rewarded with threats and intimidation the rest of their career.

Literally.... had a few of them talk with me in confidence on their options and my advice.

It comes down to marketable skills. Management people who have those in-demand skills aren't scared.
