New York City has the TOUGHEST most restrictive gun laws of any city, short of D.C.
Wonder why the criminals do not abide?

In this video frame grab provided by the New York Police Department, an unidentified gunman points a
pistol at a livery car driver in New York. Police say the suspect entered the cab, displayed a firearm and
demanded money.
He then fired three shots at the driver, Raphael Martinez, who was later hospitalised in stable condition.
The photo was taken by a security camera mounted in the cab.Picture: New York Police Department/AP

I'm pretty sure one of the things Obama will address is the large magazines........so only allow smaller mags and the crook will just carry more of them. Makes about as much sense as that New York dude outlawing the really big cokes!!

Will all the kids appearing with Obama get squirt guns to play with and keep them entertained while he bloviates???

[h=1]FBI has 5,216,732 illegal alien records in gun background check system[/h]
The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) is reporting that they have records on 5,216,732 illegal or unlawful aliens. These records are kept under the “Prohibited Category Description” of those in the United States that are not allowed to purchase a firearm.
The NICS background check system was implemented by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on November 30, 1998. The data reported are a compilation from the program’s implementation to December 31, 2012.
A phone call to the NICS call center to ask if the NICS system is used by the FBI to communicate immigration status to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a Department of Homeland Security organization, resulted in being put on hold for 98 minutes before the call was terminated.
According to FBI.gov, if a Federal Firearms Licensed dealer (FFL) requests a background check on an individual that is not in the NICS system “If no matching records are returned by any of the databases, the transaction is automatically proceeded.”

Same reason that pro lifers claim every embryo special yet once that embryo completes the 9 month gestation process and is born, that once embryo can be shot or blown up for any political purpose desired. Then those same pro-lifers will not only celebrate but sing the highest praises and do everything possible to re-elect those post birth abortion doctors back into power so they can continue to commit more and more post birth abortions.

Ever notice how contradictory and hypocritical political power is when you back up and see it for what it really is!

"work hard to keep guns out of the hands of irresponsible people....." Like Holder did???

Background checks are OK with me BUT in the process, if you find a person to be here illegally, then what?
He's a pedophile? Then what?
He has warrants, then what?
He owes back child support? Then what?

Here are the 23 things......#23 puts Sebalius in a mental health talk.......she's about as "mental" as they come.
List compiled by the Guardian:
1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.
2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.
3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.
4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.
5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.
6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.
11. Nominate an ATF director.
12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper
training for active shooter situations.
13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.
14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.
16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.
18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.
19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.
20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.
21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.
23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

And when the next shooting occurs after the laws kick in what will the excuses be then?

It will be answered with another call for more laws and fewer rights for the people because we all know this entire gun problem is due to us having too many freedoms.

We already have communities where every movement of each person is strictly controlled ; from the time they rise in the morning , when they shower , when they are allowed to eat , when they are allowed to exercise until the time when they are required to sleep.
These communities are run by both the Federal & state governments yet assaults , rapes & murders continue no matter what preventive methods they try .
So how will any new laws aimed at law biding citizens be effective when the same people in charge can't even run a prison .

Soooooo...

Just a curious question, I'm not a gun owner currently, and I don't foresee owning a gun anytime soon (although it might happen in the future), but as I'm reading everyone's responses to Obama's proposed legislation, I'm mostly reading negative reviews...

As gun owners, what would y'all propose to fix these problems that we face as a country vis-a-vis gun violence?

It seems like Biden came back after his powwow and threw up a lot of the same legislation suggestions which, like the '94 Brady Bill, didn't really seem all that effective.

So my question is, if Obama's plans aren't going to make a substantive difference, what actually would make a difference in this trend of tragic mass-shootings?

To put it another way, if the Dems are going about it all wrong, what's the correct way to go about it?

One option is to collectively throw our hands up in the air and say, "ha, ha, can't stop the crazies!" etc, but that doesn't seem correct.

The other option is to do something on a Federal level: so what is that Federal option?

Responsible gun owners please reply.
