I imagine more than a few Civil War vets got at least partially blinded by pieces of percussion caps shooting those things.
Its worse when firing a rifle because your eye is a lot closer to the cap. Flintlocks can be even worse. Early solders couldn't shoot them without flinching.

Fortunately most rifle hammers close around the nipple to contain things. Revolver hammers don't have that feature.

In the meantime while I'm waiting on the Colt to come, I put a new set of grips on the Uberti to try and make the two look more like a pair. It's amazing how much a different color of grips will change the whole look of the gun.
