WASHINGTON — Firearm bump stocks would have to be surrendered, destroyed or made inoperable under a ban proposed Friday by the Justice Department.

The Justice Department does not write the laws of the nation and does not have the authority to write administrative law. It would have to be passed into law by both houses of Congress. Good luck with enforcing surrender or destruction of these accessories.

Automatic weapons are already pretty much banned. This proposed ban would bypass both houses of Congress and lump it in with law already on the books.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the Justice Department would clarify rules that define bump stocks within the definition of "machine gun" under federal law, a move that would ban the sale and possession of such accessories.

Just make it a felony to own or possess a bump stock. If your're dumb enough to keep one then you risk losing all rights to possess any firearm.
