Voting Starts Next Week! How will you vote and why.

just chillin'

Rest in peace wooba
I already been in a strike and trust me I can line up my pile of grievances with the best of them. If the members want a strike I am gonna be there so don’t worry about that. It’s all the cocky vote no guys that don’t know what to expect is who you gotta worry about being scabs. I seen it at the last contract. 2 weeks in and the wife needs money for the kids, mortgage due and late on car payments. I already walked the line at UPS and walked in solidarity with other crafts. Truth is I am more worried about guys like you being a man or a scab.

cmon...nobodys scabbin even if they wanted to especially after two weeks. first couple days management cleans up the leftover volume in the buildings and then locks the doors.

This is my first contract negotiation at ups and if I'm not mistaken and I've been wrong before but isn't this the first contract vote that's going to be done over the phone? And if that's correct do you guys think that it'll change the voter turnout at all?

What needs to be understood is that it’s not UPS that I’m throwing this offer back at....it’s the union. I’m in the Nor Cal area and these “cover drivers” down south have done nothing but created a 10 year plus wait to go full time. Think about it......these guys work in the hub till UPS feels they need them, then when they’re done using you up back to the dungeon you go. Yeah......not what I’d call a wealth of opportunity.
I agree with you but, they don't go back to the hub, except maybe 2 or 3 weeks in feb. they work route just like any driver only more stops and make 75% top rate. no 9.5 and no bidding. You can see why they want this nationally right?

So your voting no to keep weekend work the same for RPCD's and the company will still continue to use current the two tier drivers that already exist even though they make less than a 22.4.

Seriously what are you expecting to gain from a no vote that is better that your current economic package?
What good will the raise do me if I get fired for not making production based on the technology and discipline section??

I'll chine in on this one. We have okay language for cover drivers. It's not being enforced at all! I'd love to know why?

It's not being enforced because of us. FT drivers have been way too lax about it because we think, "hey, that kid is making some money, and we have another driver available...."

And because in many centers, if you push the issue and file on it, they will create the position and then immediately layoff that position and the three ahead of it. So, it works in a manner that sort of benefits the company and that kid. The kid doesn't wanna kill the golden goose, the company gets a second class driver. Union hates it, you and I don't wanna rock his boat so we dont push it.

Everyone outside of the JC in Oregon and NJ has some form of this in their language, cover driver, TCD, give it a name. Some areas don't abuse it, others don't use it at all, many/most ride that horse until she falls. These 22.4's will feel that pain, but the union gets FT contributions so now it's a good idea.

Gonna be a rough go for these kids. It would be a little easier to swallow if they could at least have 88-hour requests and earn 9.5 protections at 4 years like an RPCD. Based on the apathy I've seen, I still think its gonna pass.

There is no way that is master language because that does not apply here. Once you are on the 9.5 list here, it carries over to any route that you cover.

That's a grey area, I've heard different inerpretations. Either way, at 4 years, there is no interpretation, its straight forward.

In theory. Reality is new drivers are second class, $18.75/hr borrowed mules.

It has always been that way.

Rookies and Christmas drivers always got the enjoyment of punching out last.

Just to clarify, I am referring to how things used to be, not the new hybrid driver.

If my memory serves me correct, they did try to implement some nonsense where if the regular driver signed up for the 9.5 list, then the route was on the 9.5 list.

If the driver did not signup, the route was not on the list, and you got no protection as a cover driver even if you were on the 9.5 list.

To answering the thread question, I expect the hybrid driver language to be removed. No current full time driver should accept this language and willingly accept being targeted by the company for removal. UPS main focus is its bottom line and they would have little reason and no financial inventive to ever allow any hybrid driver to become a RCPD. What's more likely to happen is that the company will use the cheaper labor with zero overtime protection before they utilize RPCD.

I think EVERYONE in EVERY CENTER, should put themselves on the 9.5 list. Even the “blasters” who love and want all to O.T. Doesnt mean you still wont get your O.T., just means it cant be forced on you without a big honkin’ penalty!

Hope your company official because if any union official talked to me like that in person I'd stuff the MA down their throat and force them to chew and swallow.
Sure you would tuff stuff. Besides he started it with me if you think I’m just gonna take it and not dish it out then you just hit a lesson.

Remember when they initially put up the 9.5 signup list?

The look of horror on managements face to see every driver signup was priceless.

Then of course it changed to the 9.5 list we have now were you have to be violated first to even get on the list.
