You might want to verify that.

Health and Welfare payments....

Ok.

(Under the old company plan)

Pension contributions ?

Not a chance.

-Bug-

Central Region here. One hour a week in my local for h/w and SERVICE pension. Contributory pension accrues with 1801 hrs per yr.

My guess is that the one hour per week was to guarantee thousands of mobsters...er....Teamsters got to collect a pension

It's a reality. This about the only workgroup in the world that finds it preposterous they have to pay for any benefits. It's not remotely normal anymore.
Our jobs (yours included) are preposterous. I think UPS having "normal" people from the rest of the world as employees will be there undoing.

I still think it takes a special kind of person to work here. But the thing is, even if hourlies have to contribute a little, the benefits still far exceed the majority of places.

My stepdad is an exec VP of an 8 billion dollar company. When I was a PT hourly I had better health insurance than he did. Let's think about that for a second.

3 done 3 to go

In control of own destiny
The same 10 people will vote on the next contract. Then it will pass. Except! One supplement in western Pa. Then the union will again, throw out any votes for the common good. We get the same :censored2: contract.

No 2 teir
No 401k matches
No extra vacations

Hoffa will say look what I've got you guys. Here take my picture -- my fist is in the air for some reason. You guys like that.

Ok where is that UPS plane to take the family to Florida?

Yes but they have things like heat and air conditioning, parties and potluck - on the clock, etc. :)

Honestly the benefits have a minimal cost (just money accruing in a pot) if they aren't used and I know that we are one of the healthiest workforces.

I'd would think it's all pretty even.

I would quit tomorrow if top rate down the road wasn't there. The career isn't worth anything less than top rate to me. In fact the healthcare and pension are what really makes it worth it.

Progression is nothing more than an investment in my eyes. Just because fedex guys, and Amazon people are willing to work for pennies doesn't mean I'm going to. Cut wages, raise the burden on the employee for Healthcare costs, cut the pension. That's fine.

I can go work construction and make nearly 50/HR operating heavy equipment and low 40's/HR to labor via prevailing wage. Worse work conditions and a lot of traveling which I didn't care for but jeeze there's money to be made if you have a good head on your shoulders and aren't afraid to get your hands dirty...

I would think in the end these are the type of people that eventually grind it out at UPS and make it in the long run. These same people will say to hell with it if things go backwards because they are the type that can always find decent work anywhere because sharp hard workers are hard to find today.

The company my dad works for went two tier wages a decade back and it's been a nightmare. The age old saying "you get what you pay for" comes to mind. They in fact just recently substantially raised wages/bennies for the second tier because they are dying for qualified people that will stick around. The current meter reader who makes 11/HR asked my dad what the job paid when he started 32 years ago. The answer. 13/HR.

Until things swing back to companies investing in their workforce instead of shareholders, I'm afraid things will continue to get worse for everyone.

Sounds like PT UPS. $11/hr PTer asked me how much I make 30 years ago. Over $13/hr.

I was in the USW union for 11yrs before I went management.

But when I was in the union, one thing we never did was publicly discuss what we'd be willing to get screwed on or giving the company ideas about what to take away from us.

It makes no sense to say oh we are gonna lose this or lose that.

Curious to see what most people feel out there about the upcoming contract for me it's definitely retirement unfortunately being in the central states pension fund the Teamsters let us down and current retirees and pension funds will go belly up in seven years leaving retirees with nothing and those of us getting ready to retire have an a portion of their retirement taking away also I truly believe those retirees will lose out UPS will not give the shortfall with this new upcoming contract that's my personal opinion and that's sad but we must change with the current times keep in mind I know some people will say we are screwing fellow Teamsters but if we really are true Teamsters shouldn't we all be in a pension fund together we all take a little bit of a loss I would be willing to lose 100 or $200 a month for my pension if everybody who was a teamster did and nobody would lose their pension entirely but that will never happen I had said earlier the tiered system the new drivers will never see the current rate of pay that we make and a 401(k) match there will be no more UPS retirement I know some of you may feel as though that is screwing other upcoming UPSers but we must be proactive as the future of this company and not stick our heads in the sand I know everyone feels though UPS makes billions of dollars in which they do but they do it from separate entities please understand that yes the money originally came from UPS but as times have changed the profitability and just package delivery has decreased For UPS understanding that our wages Health and welfare have skyrocketed and other carriers not anywhere as close so yes those changes need to take place in order for us to be competitive and save the current retirement of those already working what might be your thoughts

I think you might be pregnant or menopausal based on the fact that you haven't had a period in a long time.

Please consult with a doctor or an English teacher.

What do you expect to lose or receive with the upcoming contract.
Try to stay on topic and don't believe anyone who thinks the strike will work, Orion has fixed that and 97 we went on strike the company was crippled; they will not be caught with your pants down again
and they won't with the inflammation of the new technology
but we need not to stick our heads in the sand like we get a 97 regarding the pension and now central states is going belly up in seven years it needs to be fixed
and it may have to be, with the upcoming class of new employees not receiving the current benefits we have
such as high pay into retirement - may be a 401(k) match and a tiered a system what's your thoughts

The company should expect to lose some of those massive profits they are earning off our backs. By sharing some of that, they will continue to earn even more.
