Agreed...and I do believe that physical "punishment" is a deterrent to crime. If someone stole something...and got a finger lopped off as punishment...chances are...they will never do that again. Sometimes the ends justify the means...to quote Machiavelli.

I agree in cases of armed resistance like Waco and Ruby Ridge. This was different and the officer had a duty to use nonlethal force or wait for backup.
