Not sure why I even care to post this after all these years maybe its therapeutic for me, but I recently stumbled on the "Brown Café".
Interestingly enough the same problems and complaints that I observed starting in 1994 still exist today. I recently received the UPS offer of a lump sum payment in lieu of my monthly stipend at age 65. "WOW" what a slap in the face to say the least. I am so fortunate that I realized UPS was not what I wanted as my career and I left in time to carve out another career. While at UPS my life was only lived for vacations and the weekends. I was a hard working guy, who believed in a good days work for a good days wage. It was never enough ! I was always the guy who ran scratch or better. I was rewarded with other drivers work who could not keep pace. I don't think I ever took a full hour lunch , because I would not get home in time to go to my family's school events or sporting events. I rarely had a problem physically doing the job I was an ex college athlete so the physical strains did wear on me at times but I managed to stay ahead of the pack. The Union was a Joke to say it the best way I can. Nothing was ever followed or enforced which could have made the environment better. There was never a Team environment there. It was always Union vs management. I never wanted to go into management it seemed like those guys all hated what they did as well. I'm sure there are some Union guys who have enjoyed the career choice and I respect you for that. I just have no respect for the crying little "p-word" guys who have made a career of showing up there and complaining but yet cashed the check every Friday. I was told id never be able to secure a career like the one UPS provided me by my center mgr. Oh how i've proved that wrong.
