Peak 2017

It works for that small minority of recipients whose commitment is genuine and determined.
That small minority grows when the investment is genuine and determined. When there is a path shown to kids from grammar school through high school the success rate is much higher than you give credit for.

I agree. Time for investment in education and training for these folks.
Opportunities are there now. It is up to the people to take the initiative to put them to use.

Just look at the number of immigrants, legal or not, that have been here for years and have NEVER learned to speak English.

Another right wing falsehood that you've fallen for.
Opportunities are there, the initiative and will are lacking. Of course you will throw in the race card. What else is new.
No they aren't, even in poor white Appalachia there isn't the opportunities you claim.

Among the relative few who are determined and committed to succeed. Poor people as a whole are not known as a well-behaved group of people who are eager to learn and grow.

Once again. You need initiative and will. Too many stories of uneducated and self taught people who have succeeded and become wealthy and successful individuals prove you wrong. They all had the will to succeed and a never give up attitude.

I saw a story today on CBS This Morning. Illegal immigrant rode a freight train to America when he was young. Lived on the streets and worked odd jobs. Got a job as a bus boy and worked his way up to server at a restaurant. Sent himself to culinary school and now he owns 8 restaurants in Houston. He also learned the language and became a citizen. He said he wasn't gonna give up and wasn't gonna stop working until he succeeded.

Will and desire.

Everyone of those success stories had help along the way. The sad truth is your anecdotal success stories are just another attempt to distract from the real issues of our society.

Disagree, it's not an income problem, it's a cultural problem. Often the two are intertwined, but some of the least fortunate (income wise) are the most polite and well reared citizens. It's a problem of culture not wealth.
