So if there’s a way to Re-Rail a thread. I’d love a suggestion box of reasonable ideas on how as a Teamster, I can support those that aren’t going to get vaxed. Our local has stated that the testing will be an option and neither the company or Teamcare will pay for that option. There are many, many creative and smart minded people on this site and this thread. While not seeing eye to eye, let’s say for arguments sake that we’re not going to be able to change the Mandate. How do we protect and support each other in the one spot we are on common ground, which is (hopefully) being Teamsters employed by UPS.

I sort of agree but I believe most of the masses are good people even if they support socialist policies to an extent. And it doesn't do us any favors to insult them, even if it is in response to them insulting us.
Some of us fear that the left is ruining everything. Some of them feel like the right is ruining everything. We need these good people to wake up, and I don't see that happening when we're at each others throats.

You conveniently left out the hundreds of millions of deaths by the left....

So does the "good" people...masses...whatever.....good people......they condoned killing 6 million Jews....in broad daylight.

These "good" people must NEVER be allowed to bubble up AGAIN. Sugar coating genocide and cold blooded murder cannot EVER be excused or allowed EVER AGAIN.

I am just so over the virus. Move on and go back to normal. Do we really need daily updates every day on the news and paper and social media on a coronavirus until 2032? If close to 1,000,000 Americans have died, that is 1 in 350 Americans. So in my county of 350,000 people there are 10,000 dead from coronavirus?!?! BS. Bodies would be piled everywhere and you would know many many neighbors and people who are no longer alive. I only know many UPSers who have gotten it and come back to work.. Shrug.

They incentivized hospitals to lie about covid numbers ($$$) so now every death that wasn't congestive heart failure (because that is another special disease they get money for) is now covid.

The world is so crazy now, I could imagine things progressing to genocide/war. It's a possibility but in my opinion unlikely, even if we head slightly and slightly more in that direction.

We all learned about the Holocaust in school. There are those that would sit back and say nothing as it happens. But there are too many people who wouldn't let it happen. I believe even the hardest leftists here wouldn't stand for a repeat of the holocaust. Or maybe some of them would? Idk.

Supporting socialist crap like student loan forgiveness, Medicare for all, etc doesn't mean you would sugar-coat genocide. I really am against socialism and communism. I'll never vote for that crap, but a couple of my kindest friends will vote for it and they have good intentions.

You can see why I'm a bit skeptical.

True, it is your choice to take them or not take them, but please don't try to say that facing either a vaccination or the loss of your livelihood, or in some extreme cases, the relocation of your family to "quarantine centers" is not anything other than government coercion, especially when this is a virus with a 99% survival rate. That is not victim mentality. That is government coercion and overreach, plain and simple.

It's easy to "choice away" the explanation when you took the vaccine and have faced no adverse side effects, health, socially or otherwise.

I hate to see what happens to this country if we get blasted with a real pandemic of some sort of highly virulent and deadly nipah virus.

The survival rate is only one component. You need to get off that. It’s not just about saving lives. I know that if I actually got it, I’d probably be seemingly “just fine.”
It’s easy to say 99% of people are just fine when you haven’t had the virus or know anybody that died from it, lost anything from it.
It’s not feasible to have a society where everybody is sick. That’s would not happen. That is not in anybodys best interest. You can give me 100 different solutions to the problem until you’re blue in the face. “Natural immunity!” “Let everybody get it and then we’ll be done with it!”

I've already made my decision. Regular testing is not an option. If it comes to that, I will let them fire me. If we all refuse, they can't force us. Hell, even if probably 20% of us refuse, we'll be fine. But if I'm alone, I'll go it alone, and make my stand for everyone's rights.

Based on conversations with people in my hub I think 20% would be a stretch. People who are already vaxed mostly won’t care about your stand. Active members, stewards and the E Board are all the support you’ll have. I’m not in a place where I want to see members resign. Our local is suggesting a temporary leave of absence for anyone who is on the same thought plane as you are. That what, when hopefully this mandate expires, you can come back on your hard earned spot on the seniority list and resume the career you’ve earned up to this point.

Based on conversations with people in my hub I think 20% would be a stretch. People who are already vaxed mostly won’t care about your stand.

Your hub may not be representative of the country, 20% probably isn't as much a stretch nationwide. And I don't really care whether they care about my stand. I wouldn't be doing it for them to care.

Active members, stewards and the E Board are all the support you’ll have. I’m not in a place where I want to see members resign. Our local is suggesting a temporary leave of absence for anyone who is on the same thought plane as you are. That what, when hopefully this mandate expires, you can come back on your hard earned spot on the seniority list and resume the career you’ve earned up to this point.

Actually, that's an idea I can get behind. I can just use my accrued sick time selectively to keep my benefits going. A lot of people won't be able to afford a protracted period of absence, though, so I don't know how many people it will help.

I'd like to see people prove that I pose any more of a threat to anyone else's health and safety than anyone else to justify such differential treatment. That's where medical discrimination comes in, and I would be making my stand in the courts if it came to it. And it will be against both the company and the union for failure to represent, since it's literally in our contract that the both parties agree to abide by the ADA, article 14 section 3. The union has taken it upon themselves to enforce the ADA. Probably shouldn't have done that. It also says nothing in the grievance process will impede a member's right to pursue their statutory rights under the ADA.

Based on the statistics behind the vaccine, any court, judge, jury will laugh in the face of your “stand.” It’s like saying i refuse to wear a seatbelt because it’s potentially dangerous. The stats are not in your favor.

I like this thought as well. Get some time away from the madness that is UPS. Also be nice to see management sweat a little trying to get routes covered.
I'm not opposed to the testing as long as ups foots the bill, but a year or two "sabbatical" sounds nice if you can afford it.
