ie Jeremy's comments comparing the ZR1 to a Ferrrari? Yes, totally agree. Pretty ignorant. OOOOOh! It's rubbish! The dashboard doesn't look like a Jag's!

I am going to spend part of the day browsing at new cars. The lease on my Altima is up in early 2016 and while I will probably stay w/Nissan I do want to see what else is out there. I have been thinking about the VW Passat but the closest dealer is 2 hours away. I will check out Kia, Toyota, Hyundai, and Chevrolet/GM. I like the style that I have and will most likely lease something similar.

Any suggestions (other than not leasing)?

Pros: German engineering.

Cons: German engineering.

My wife also bought an 8 or $900 Paff sewing machine (German) that now sits in the basement collecting dust because she got tired of taking it in for repairs and adjustments. We replaced it with a $170 (on sale) Brother machine from Costco that does everything the Paff did (except break down). It hasn't faltered once in 3 years of heavy use. Never again will I buy anything German.

Germans have always gone for complicated engineering. Great when it works but can go wrong in so many more ways.

Their instruction books suck also. It's easier to comprehend a 50 page instructing sheet from Ikea on how to put a 500 piece computer desk together than it is follow German instructions on how to thread a needle on their Paff machine.

It reminds me of WW2 and the Me109 vs British Spitfires. Comparable performance but the Me109 engine was many times more complicated. And its pretty sad when the positive comparison is British reliability. :P
