Personally I would consider the banishment as a badge of honor. Two political Benedict Arnold families ban me, cool, I don't have to come up with a lame flare up of irritable bowel syndrome as an excuse for my no show.

I assume you didn't grow up in the era, and have no idea that McCain would have never seen a cockpit or ever been on the grounds of Annapolis, besides cutting the grass, if his father wasn't an Admiral. That does not change the fact that he served and put himself in harms way and endured 5 years of torture as a POW for our country, or that the man who denigrated his service used his own fathers wealth (as well as a questionable deferment) to spend the war playing tennis and marching around pretending to be a soldier at an elite military academy.
However McCain wound up in that cockpit, he still wound up in that cockpit. Which is a lot more than Cadet Bone Spurs can say.

You can hate the government (really easy to do in hindsight), but you should be able to separate the soldiers from the politicians.
Our soldiers fight for us, probably knowing it’s BS, but they still fight.
